My Story
Welcome! My name is Jocelyn and I am a lifelong lover of fantasy, folklore, and things that smell amazing.
I began making my own candles during the 2020 lockdowns as a way to turn my living room into an immersive experience while I watched my favorite movies. Effectively, it was my way to transport myself to another world in a time when I couldn't walk out my front door.
Over the next few years, I poured my efforts into learning the science and process of candle making in my spare time while working as a filmmaker for an immersive experience company. When that company folded under the post-pandemic economic downturn in 2022, I decided to use that experience creating immersive environments and translate it into creating immersive scents for others to enjoy, through Mythic Wick, full time.
I set out to create candles that appeal to one’s inner nerd, but that offer complex, well-rounded, out-of-the-ordinary scents in a classy, modern package. I personally have respiratory issues and several family members who suffer from migraines, so it’s important to me to make candles with clean ingredients. That’s why I carefully curate every ingredient in my candles, checking every safety data sheet, to ensure that my waxes and fragrances are free of paraffins, parabens, phthalates, carcinogens, respiratory irritants, organ toxins, acute toxins, reproductive toxins, and mutagens that are typically (shockingly!) found in many commercial candles.
I custom blend scents based on locations, characters, and tropes found in fantasy movies, tv shows, books, folklore, and other beloved forms of storytelling. I hand-pour each candle from my garage-converted-workshop. Oh - and I use crackling wood wicks, which are extra cozy.
I do small runs of limited edition and seasonal scents, partly to keep things manageable, and partly because it’s too much fun for me to create new scents, so I always have something new in the works!
